VUSN Dean's Diversity Lecture Series: Alice Randall
The first VUSN Dean’s Diversity lecture for 2020-2021 took place via Zoom on Thursday, September 10, 2020. In the lecture, bestselling author Alice Randall presents a ‘novel’ approach to developing an anti-racist toolkit by engaging with fiction, which can equip readers with insight into cultures other than their own. Reading fiction, novels and short stories can facilitate the development of empathy as readers enter the interior life of others facing invisible obstacles in an unjust world. Nurses have the responsibility to be aware, respond and bear witness to these unjust truths. Randall shares ways they can be empowered to use their voices for justice in settings where people are the most vulnerable.
