"SORRY" in Italian (Scusa, Perdono, Mi dispiace: which one to use?)
Ciao! In this new Italian lesson, I'll tell you everything you need to know about apologies in Italian. First of all, I'll show you 3 ways to say "I'm sorry" and then we'll look at how you can reply to someone's apologies. In the video, I'll give you many real-life examples both in formal and informal situations.
This is a summary of the lesson:
Part 1: How to say "I'm sorry" - 0:22
1. "Scusa" or "scusami" (Informal) / "Scusi" or "mi scusi" (Formal): this is for small apologies, like arriving late or bumping into someone - 0:30
2. "Perdono" or "Perdonami" (Informal) / "Perdono" or "mi perdoni" (Formal): this is for more serious apologies when the word "scusa/scusi" is not strong enough. It's a way to ask for forgiveness. - 5:07
3. "Mi dispiace" (Informal & Formal): this is for showing sympathy and it doesn't imply that you're guilty. - 6:26
Part 2: How to reply to someone's apologies - 7:37
1. Non fa niente = no problem (Informal & Formal)
2. Non importa = no problem (Informal & Formal)
3. Non ti preoccupare (Informal) / Non si preoccupi (Formal) = don't worry
4. E' tutto apposto (Informal & Formal) = it's alright
5. Tranquillo / Tranquilla (ONLY Informal) = no worries
