On the 3rd of January, 1969, humanity landed on the moon. Emerging from a small hatch in a small landing craft; a man in a sterling-white space suit descended onto the surface and so became the first human to tread where none had ever before. Soon joined by another; the man and his partner spent two and half hours on surface collecting minerals and samples, and fatefully planting a flag near their landing zone. After this time they re-boarded their craft and made for Earth; safely returning and becoming the figures of legend.

They were Alexey Leonov and Valeri Kubasov; Soviet Cosmonauts, and victors of the Space Race. The footage captured by the men was played in cinemas all across the Soviet Union and beyond; and photos of Leonov saluting before a planted Soviet flag spread far across the globe. The United States was deeply humiliated by this loss; with both public and government dissatisfaction with NASA seeing the department drained of most funding. The world would never be quite the same ever again.
