Universal radio programming cable

In this video I go through my take on a USB programming cable. I have a number of different radios Icom, Yeasu, Kenwood as well as the usual Chinese suspects. Just to be awkward I also have leads to programming microcontrollers.
Having this many devices causes two problems. Firstly you have a lot of leads to store and keep track of. Secondly plugging an unplugging a variety of usb to xyz cables and cause the windows to stop recognising the device and you get error code 31 in device manager.
The other reason major reason for the project is that I have number of cheap eBay programming leads that don’t work. Why because they have cloned PL2303 chips inside. These leads have not gone to waste. The USB part may be junk the radio end is fully serviceable.
So what I have made is a universal device. I took the idea from the Motorola RIB system. What I have is an usb to TTL lead and I have added a 9pin D plug on the end. Not all I have to do is make a 9pin D socket to whatever device I am wanting to program.
The USB to TTL cable was purchased from CPC farnell in Preston for a about £5 +VAT. The order code is SC13277. It does not come with a driver but it is a Prolific PL2302 chip inside so windows update should pick up the drivers.
