Starye Gromyki Chernobyl Exclusion Zone Belarus

This is the walk through Starye Gromyki village in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in the Vietka District in the Gomel Region of Belarus. Starye Gromyki is an evacuated village in contaminated lands. Starye Gromyki is located at the following coordinates: 52°41'32.465"N 31°21'15.251"E. In 1926, a post office and an elementary school functioned in Starye Gromyki. In 1930, the Gorodok collective farm was created, a windmill and a forge worked. During World War II, 36 residents died at the front. In 1959, it was part of the Zarechny state farm, the center of which was located in the village of Garusty. As a result of the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986, the village was exposed to a radiation pollution. In 1992, all residents (53 families) were resettled in clean places.
