Introduciton
Shell and tube heat exchangers are the most common type of heat exchanger employed in industrial plants; the second most common is the plate type heat exchanger.

The heat exchanger consists of a shell side flowing medium and a tube side flowing medium. The two flowing mediums are not in direct contact with each, other but are close enough that heat can be transferred between them (thermal contact). The large contact surface area of the tubes and the turbulent flow on both the shell and tube side, ensure a very good heat transfer rate.

The shell type heat exchanger consists of:

Tubes
Shell
Tube Plate
Baffles
Expansion Ring
Gaskets
Inserts
