Minimalist Landscape Photography

Can a minimalist approach to composition help to improve your landscape photography? This week I try to emulate the style of one of my photography heroes, Michael Kenna, and take my favourite approach of simplifying my composition to the extreme.

Landscape photography vlog on location at the lookout point at Willpark just outside Boscastle in Cornwall.

Meachard rock just outside the harbour at Boscastle makes for an excellent subject for a minimalist landscape photograph. I try a number of different techniques including:
- eliminating the foreground
- removing texture from the sky and sea using the Lee Big Stopper (long exposure photography)
- maximising negative space
- removing definition from the sky using a Lee Filters Mist Grad

I also try a few different finishes using Silver Efex Pro and Analog Efex Pro from the Nik Collection.
