To understand rhythm skating you have to know a little about the history. Rhythm skating began with Bill Butler’s jammin technique. The jammin technique becomes the New York and New Jersey freestyle according to Killa B, a New York style skater who is taught by Bill Butler himself.

As the style developed and grew, styles and regional identities developed because of the music popular in these regions. Additionally different styles were influenced by different movements that make up the way they move today.

Each of these styles existed more in the regions alone until the styles started spreading in the 2000s with more national jams. Now most people skate a mixture of the styles and even people who don’t see the styles in person are influenced by the internet.

Today we are going to deep dive 3 of those styles the Atlanta, Cleveland, and Detroit styles.
