For Dog Professionals: How to make and use a "Figure 8" leash

Figure 8 leashes are extremely useful for safely moving dogs with questionable handling tolerance. A figure 8 leash is very easy to make and can even be fashioned out of a regular clip leash. It helps to practice on a friendly familiar dog prior to using on a fearful dog or a dog with low handling tolerance.

You can also make a figure 8 leash out of:
- a regular leash and a slip leash. Just clip the regular leash to the metal ring on the slip prior to leashing the dog with the slip.
- two slip leashes. Attach one slip leash to the other's metal ring.
- two regular leashes. Create a slip leash by threading the clip through the handle of one leash, then clip the second leash to the handle of the first leash.
