Turning 100: Bob Hawks-Woodturner

Bob Hawks is an inspiration to us all. He is still woodturning at 100 years old. One of the early pioneers of woodturning in America, he has turned thousands of pieces, one of which is in the White House permanent art collection. He has not only led a long life but a remarkably interesting one. This is his story.

As a side note, Bob has been a mentor to me since I started turning. His advice and insights were very influential in my turning career. He has been a friend to Bryan and me before the early days of our PBS show Woodturning Workshop. He has appeared in our videos and shot (for free) all the photos of our projects. He and his wife Jan have a special place in our hearts.
