The Dragons of the Canaries - The Secrets of Nature

If we hear of a newly discovered animal species in the 21st century we cannot help pricking up our ears. Nessie and the Yeti have so far turned out to be flops, and the new discoveries presented by expeditions just returned from remote rainforest regions usually fit into a matchbox: mainly spiders and insects, not more than a couple of centimetres long. But to discover a substantial vertebrate species is regarded as a sensation even today, all the more so if the place of its discovery is not the faraway Amazonian jungle but a tourist paradise - the Canary Islands.
