These are my magical tools for creating realistic depth ✨🖤

I use Graphite, Carbon & Charcoal pencils together — but each medium has its own purpose.

✏️ Graphite Pencils
Perfect for lighter values and smooth transitions.
But the downside? They reflect light and create shine on paper.
That’s why I mostly use graphite only in the lighter areas.

🖤 Carbon Pencils
My favorite for detailed dark values.
They give rich matte blacks without shine and are amazing for realistic detailing.
But I usually avoid them for lighter shades.

🔥 Charcoal Pencils
These are the kings of pitch-dark values!
They smudge beautifully and help create powerful shadows and depth.
But they’re not ideal for tiny details because of their soft texture.

And here’s the most important trick 👇
✅ You can layer graphite over charcoal
❌ But charcoal won’t sit properly over graphite

That’s exactly why understanding the order of layering matters while combining these mediums together.
