Corn snakes, also called red rat snakes, are a species of rat snake found commonly throughout the southeastern parts of the United States. Often times seen as pets, not a lot of people realize these snakes are naturally very docile. Corn snakes look very similar to other rat snake species, but are often confused with venomous snakes, such as copperheads and other light colored pit vipers. These snakes are completely harmless, and if you ever run into one of these snakes, know that it's a docile, helpful species.
