The output transformer does not only transfer power.

It shapes the amplifier’s bandwidth.

In a tube amplifier, the transformer sits between the output tubes and the loudspeaker. Its primary and secondary windings define the load relationship, but its real behavior also depends on core material, winding geometry, leakage inductance, interwinding capacitance, saturation margin, and phase shift.

That is why bandwidth testing matters.

At low frequencies, the transformer can reveal core saturation, reduced bass authority, or rising distortion.
At high frequencies, it can reveal roll-off, phase shift, ringing, or stability problems with feedback.

A good transformer does not only look impressive.

It must transfer energy with control across the usable audio band.

Measurement shows whether power transfer remains disciplined from bass to treble.
