I left Christianity and religion for good - Kelita Sahliah

Today I spoke with Kelita Sahliah, who grew up in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, but ultimately deconverted after carefully examining the Biblical worldview.

As we talked through her story, we touched on topics such as:

• The importance, in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, of Saturday being kept completely for rest and for focusing on the Yahweh character.
• How the church often preys on vulnerable people.
• The contrast between the message of being "permanently saved and secure in Jesus," but feeling like you're constantly disappointing him and in some kind of danger of losing your close relationship with him.
• How shame culture overshadows life as a Christian.
• How the Seventh Day Adventist Church sees itself as the one true church, just like other denominations do, as well.
• The struggle to figure out the "perfect will" of the Yahweh character.
• The heavy emphasis of preparing for the End Times / Apocalypse.
• "The Great Disappointment" event when prophetess Ellen G. White set dates for the Lord's return, and it did not happen.
• How the Seventh Day Adventist church elevates Ellen White's writings to an almost canonical status.
• Dealing with the extreme legalism of church, where rules and minutiae are critical to being a "godly" person.
• The ways the Christian worldview teaches people to repress their sexual and erotic desires, so that many people never see their desires as truly good and normal and something to accept, pursue, and celebrate.
• The Christian teaching that the more you deny yourself now, the greater your rewards will be in heaven.
• Realizing that in the earliest days of Christianity, there were multiple different kinds of Christianity, including very divergent stories about what Jesus said and did.
• How the Christian patriarchal worldview leaves women feeling like a shadow, and that their main function is just to help the men.
• Thinking through the issue of why the Yahweh character wanted to be praised and worshipped so much, and realizing that he is repeatedly portrayed in the Old Testament as a nitpicky, narcissistic psychopath.
• How Christianity tricks people into putting up with unnecessary suffering as a way to please the Lord and stay focused on eternity.
• The freedom that comes from being released from the tyranny of the mythological master of the Yahweh character.

Thanks to Kelita for sharing her story and for the passion she brings to many important topics through her YT channel.
