How Meeting an Eastern Orthodox Priest Changed my Protestant Theology

Last year I sat down with an Eastern Orthodox priest to learn more about Eastern Orthodoxy. As a lifelong Protestant, I knew next to nothing about Eastern Orthodoxy. It didn't take long for me to realize that I was way in over my head. This priest, Father Mastakas, could cite councils, creeds, and church fathers fluently, and I was left with my head spinning. Luckily, I admitted that growing up in a Protestant church, we never talked about this stuff. I told him that I was lost, and I was going to need him to explain some things to me... preferably like I was a child. Kindly, he obliged, and it was in this meeting with an Orthodox priest that my interest in the Church Fathers and Patristics was ignited. Ever since, I have been fascinated by church history and all there is to learn from the Church Fathers. If I had never left my Protestant bubble, I might not have learned all of this. While I'm not a convert to Orthodoxy and don't plan on becoming one, I recognize that there is so much that Protestants like me can learn from our Orthodox brothers and sisters in Christ. In this video I want to tell invite you into my journey of expanding my theological horizons and learning to engage with people I disagree with.
