this is the Battle to end all battles.. not really and yes I know the pink elephant in the room is that the 2022 Shimano Aldebaran BFS is missing from this .. along with any sort of roro spool ...
having said that I've yet to try a reel or spool that is as easy to cast small light baits as the Daiwa Alphas variants including the air tw stream custom or silver creek.. if anyone familiar with the channel will remember that before the trout magnet bi was throwing a 2g crappie jig and although the Abu Garcia alc bf7 took overall distance.. the reel that was the easiest to cast that bait was the Megabass Rosso with hedgehog studios shallow spool .. so basically another alphas reel..
I find that reels that work better in the cast battle aren't exactly the best reel for the job... having said all that once you get used to a reel and it's casting characteristics almost all bfs reels with a light enough spool can get the job done..
one reel that seems to get the distance in shootouts and also works great on the water is the TSUrinoya Dark Wolf Ultra or the Black Knight II...
so I figured I'd put them up against each other.. the easiest JDM ul bfs reels against AliExpress or CDM reels that are the easiest to cast.. you might remember the Reel Test struggling with getting the BKII or DWU to cast very well and he's right... out of the box they're not fun but with a simple magnet fix you're good to go.. I have videos on it as well as several other YouTubers now like Paul from fishing discoveries...
so after all the smoke cleared the distance winner wasn't any of these stock spooled reels but the zillion 1000 with a chameleon BFS spool... crazy loud but very capable...
which suggests that aftermarket is probably the way to go for the ultimate bfs reel..
now as far as stock spools I have to give the props to the DWU or BKII ...
excellent all around spools as well as excellent ul spools..
now the reels themselves are slightly under say Daiwa or Shimano and closer to say Abu or Lews in quality but probably right with Kastking
