Mtoto wa mzungu ameua mtoto mkenya, Outrage in Laikipia as Teenager Allegedly Shoots Schoolmate Dead
Tension and grief have engulfed Kinamba Sosian Village in Laikipia North following the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy under disturbing circumstances.
Peter Edung, a Grade 9 pupil at Ol Maisor Primary School, is reported to have been fatally shot on Tuesday evening. The alleged shooter is said to be a 15-year-old boy from a neighboring ranch, identified as Lance Tomilson, the son of a well-known local ranch owner.
According to accounts from village elder Emuria Lorere, Peter had been invited by his friend to accompany him into the ranch for what was described as an evening hunting excursion. It is alleged that the teenager had access to a CZ 527 rifle, reportedly licensed to his father.
The two boys are said to have already killed a hyena and were pursuing another when the incident occurred. Reports indicate that Peter was walking a short distance ahead when he was shot. The exact circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear.
Following the incident, the suspect is said to have alerted National Police Reservists stationed at the ranch. The officers reportedly removed the body from the scene, but the matter was not formally reported until the following day.
When visited, Peter’s family was still in deep shock and unable to speak publicly. His grandmother, Elizabeth Natapal, expressed frustration over the lack of information, saying the family has not received clear communication from authorities since the body was taken by officers from Rumuruti.
Local leaders, including Education Chief Officer Jecintah Koree and area MCA Sammy Lokopien, have called for a thorough and transparent investigation. They raised concerns about possible interference in the case and questioned why no arrests have been made.
Residents are now demanding accountability, particularly regarding how a minor accessed a firearm. Community members have vowed to keep the local school closed until they receive answers and justice for Peter.
The body remains at Rumuruti Funeral Home, while the whereabouts of the alleged shooter are still unknown.
