Burly Rights Oz- Definitions- Harassment

Imogen Kelly, Australia's Queen of Burlesque is working with the MEAA to create a Code of Practice document for burlesque in Australia. With this in place Australian burlesque has a key source document regarding the rights of workers in burlesque.

This will provide a solid reference for students, performers, venue managers, promoters and producers to understand what is to be expected within the workplace, with codes of behaviour, base rates of payment, and work with the Media, Arts and Entertainment Alliance to resolve work related issues.

Focus areas are Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Bullying (vilification/ victimisation) and provide another channel of support in the event of criminal offences.

Members of the burlesque community are invited to attend a gathering at 6pm, August 22nd, at the MEAA offices in Redfern. At this meeting you will have an opportunity to voice concerns about your workplace safety, discuss a base rate of pay for non-community events and learn about the MEAA and what services they can provide.
At this meeting we will be gathering information to better create a work place practices document specific to burlesque- which will take time. This will be then shared online so that all Australians performing burlesque understand their rights and the rights of others.

If you are interstate and can not attend please send me an email if you want something to be discussed on the agenda. (imogen@imogenkelly.com.au)
Please invite friends who might want to come but have yet to be invited.
