A History of Racism and Civil Rights in Nevada, Bob Fulkerson, PLAN March 14th, 9:00am
Northern Nevada’s racial history has been whitewashed for too long. Beginning with the first settlers like Myron Lake who straight-up took the land from the original Indigenous people, with stories about Reno’s lynching from the Virginia Street Bridge and the burnings of Chinatown, and continuing to Reno’s Black-led Civil Rights Movement, Bob Fulkerson of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, will expatiate on Reno’s racial past with some surprising history that remains little known to most Nevadans. If we are to progress in building a racial justice movement, it is helpful to pause and meditate on our history. Indeed, how did we let those things happen? What are we missing now?
