Always Tired After Practice Fix These 4 Posture Habits #pianotips
Do you feel tired after every practice session even when you're not playing physically intense pieces.
You might think you're doing everything right, like sitting up straight and staying focused, but what if those very habits are draining you.
In this video, we’re breaking down 4 posture shifts that can help you reclaim energy, release tension, and transform your relationship with the piano.
Let’s start with a common myth that you should always sit up straight. While it sounds good in theory, this often leads to stiffness, overcorrection, and upper-body tension that actually makes things worse.
Trying to hold yourself upright often tenses the lower back and shoulders, which limits movement and drains energy. Instead, learn how to release the spine into a more natural, sustainable position.
Step two. Release your shoulders. Many pianists unconsciously hike their shoulders up, especially when concentrating or reaching for a tricky passage.
But tight shoulders restrict your arm mobility and create unnecessary stress that travels down through your back and into your wrists. Learning to notice and release shoulder tension is essential for injury-free playing.
Step three. Let your lower back roll backward slightly. This tiny adjustment can help unlock stiffness that’s been building up unnoticed.
Instead of locking into rigid spinal alignment, this slight roll allows your pelvis to find a more supported resting point, taking pressure off your spine and making breathing easier.
And finally, ask yourself this powerful question
Where in my body can I do less
This isn’t about being lazy, it's about efficiency, awareness, and mastery.
Most musicians carry more tension than they realize. Scanning your body for tightness and gently letting go brings instant relief and long-term benefits for technique and longevity.
This simple internal question will lead to lighter hands, freer movement, and a much more enjoyable practice session.
These four micro-adjustments don’t just reduce practice fatigue, they create the foundation for injury prevention, improved technique, and expressive freedom at the piano.
Whether you're a beginner, returning adult student, or advanced pianist, these posture tweaks will change how you approach the bench, the keyboard, and your own body.
If you’re committed to injury-free playing, this video is your gateway. Small posture changes lead to major shifts in how you feel physically and emotionally during and after practice.
The more we work with our bodies instead of fighting them, the more resilient and expressive our playing becomes.
