Deer Valley 4x4 Trail

The Deer Valley trail runs North and South and sits between Kirkwood Ski Resort the North side, and and Bear Valley South end. We started on the North end and descended towards Bear Valley, and the trail dropped us into Hermit Valley Campground. So if you’re coming from Tahoe, you will probably enter from on the north side, and if you’re traveling from the Bay Area or Sacramento HWY 4 towards Bear Valley would make the most sense.

My trail rating is 6-10. For reference, Rubicon and Fordyce would be in the 10 range. There are several low hanging trees so if you have rooftop tents it could be an issue, but I spotted a Land Cruiser camping with a rooftop tent.

The Bear Valley Trail was by far my favorite trail in the NorCal region. It’s the most scenic with mountains, water crossings, rocks, mud, forest, scenic campgrounds, it checked all the boxes for me.

I filmed this video using my iphone14 pro in Cinematic mode, and wireless mic from RODE Video Go.
