Entry-Level USA Gibson on Steroids! 2017 Firebird Zero Heather | Would You Rock or Not? Ep. 76
In 2017, Gibson released 5 new 'entry-level' guitars that were essentially the 'modern melody maker.' The Gibson M2, Firebird Zero (0), Sg Fusion, Les Paul Custom Special and Les Paul Custom Studio were the names of these guitars.
Of the 5, I would say the Firebird Zero got the most attention. They have poplar bodies and maple necks. This makes them great 'project' guitars. I've never had one in my hands, but I've heard the stock parts are lack luster.
This luthier suped this guitar up! He routed it for a 3rd humbucker and put three white bobbin GFS pickups in it. He added an RTO tremolo unit as well and a purply poly refinish job. To top it off, the Gibson logo was applied directly to the headstock and taken off the truss rod cover.
Would you rock this Gibson 2017 Firebird Zero that had some custom modifications or not?
Seller's Description:
"***Note: Volume and tone knobs in the first photo and 11th photo will be as delivered.*** If I am anything I am a Gibson fan. I am a guitar/tremolo designer and builder who happens to like Gibsons. So when I first saw the new Gibson Firebird Zero, I liked it. But they built it as an entry level guitar. Stock they have many issues. Poor finish, really bad bridge, not great electronics. But, they have a great maple neck. Straight as a string from the factory with nice frets. And it is cut from a single piece of maple. Every review I could find when it first came out said they liked the neck. That it had a good neck. So I decided to order one stripped, just body and neck and build it they way I thought it should have been. Everything was changed except the maple neck and the Poplar body. Starting from the top, I took the cheap looking "Gibson" logo off the truss rod cover, ordered a correct Gibson Logo, then sprayed 4 coats of polyurethane clear over the top. Hipshot Boutique locking tuners with RTO alloy mounting strip(No little positioning screw in back.) Has a self-lubricating Graphtech XL nut. Pickups are a matched set of GFS overwound alnicos PAF's with a GFS ceramic magnet overwound humbucker in center. The center pickup has a three position switch on it, so it can be used in series, which is standard, tap, or parallel. I've done this many times on 4 wire pickups. Many offer tap option. What I like is the Parallel option. Smoother sound and the low resistance of this configuration works to its advantage when you give the pickup its own volume knob. It works out really cool because you can choose exactly what you want to add for tone with either of the bridge or neck pickup. So, many different tone options, and this guitar plays and sounds sweet. Super light also. About 7 pounds as pictured. Three volume controls, one tone. Pickups each have an ON/OFF switch. The pots are the low friction EVH type. Sqraque Orange drop capacitor, Switchcraft flush mount output jack. Controls have custom RTO control knobs and strap buttons. The RTO Patented Tremolo System; the best tremolo available. It is in a class of its own with super tight, light lever feel, great tone, sustain, adjustable push in pull out lever, great range of movement both stretch and relax, and excellent tune stability. It also does not make a habit of breaking strings, it is rare and changing a set out is super easy. I have produced over 100 units now and I don't know of a single customer that does not love this tremolo. I can even put you in touch with a few owners and they will be happy to tell you. Paint is 1970's Chrysler Plum Crazy basecoat with four clear coats of polyurethane, finish sanded and hand polished. Comes with the correct, nice Gibson Firebird Zero gig bag. I thoroughly enjoy playing this guitar. It is great on distortion with a nice defined distortion and sound great on clean. Well balanced, super light, great neck. I will build another one when I have the time, for myself. Thank you for your interest! I am available 24/7 on Facebook under: RTO Guitar and Tremolo 19 tremolo demo videos on YouTube. Type in search: tommytu3 Check out my 5 other guitars listed on eBay. A rarity for me. But, getting married so, there we go..........."
