She has authored several New Thought self-help books, including the 1984 book, You Can Heal Your Life.

1. Love yourself
At 15, she dropped out of high school without a diploma, became pregnant, and gave up her baby for adoption.

2. Be mindful of your words
She moved to Chicago, where she worked in low-paying jobs.

3. Don't be resentful
In 1950, she moved on again - to New York, where she changed her name and began a career as a fashion model.

4. Learn how to think successfully
She achieved success as a fashion model, working for Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini and Pauline Trigère.

5. Help others
She found the First Church of Religious Science, which taught her the transformative power of thought.

6. Be calm
By Hay's account, in the early 1970s she became a Religious Science practitioner.

7. Do affirmations
She also studied Transcendental Meditation at the Maharishi International University.

8. Keep working on yourself
Her work with AIDS patients drew fame and she was invited to appear on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”.

9. Be thankful
Her book,You Can Heal Your Life, landed on the New York Times best-seller list.

10. #Believe that only good lies ahead
Hay House is the primary publisher of books by Deepak Chopra and by Doreen Virtue, as well as many books by Wayne Dyer.
