What is Palliative Care? (Hint: It's Not The Same as Hospice)

What does palliative care mean? To some it is terminal care, but it is so much more. It is comfort care. Some folks want to know the difference between palliative care vs hospice. Palliative definition and hospice definition both deal with end of life, but palliative treatment and palliative medicine will help patients through their entire treatment plan (not just at end of life) looking at not only the illness, but quality of life issues as well. Along with the palliative care physician, there is palliative care nursing as well as a social worker and chaplain who will form a palliative care team to ensure the patient’s overall wellbeing is also being addressed and treated.
