What happens if you end dwm.exe in different versions of Windows?
DWM stands for Desktop Window Manager.
In Windows XP and earlier, applications render themselves directly to the screen in the order that are stacked, they also do this in Windows Vista and 7 if the basic or classic themes are selected. However in Windows Vista and 7 if the Aero theme is selected and in Windows 8 and above the applications render to an off-screen buffer which DWM then processes and renders to the screen. This allows for transparency, live thumbnails and animations.
In Windows Vista and 7 DWM runs Aero. In Windows 8 and above, DWM runs the Metro UI and the general window skin and is mandatory. So what happens if you end dwm.exe in different versions of Windows?
