Rustic Log Bridge Construction

This documents my construction of a simple single-span, deck beam-girder log bridge in December 2014. The bridge ended up being 3 ft wide by 17 1/2 ft long. Time to build was about 15 hours. Cost to build was about $30 in hardware and chainsaw gas.

I think this bridge should be good for at least a few years, but to make it last longer I could've taken the bark off the logs and kept the span to about 12 feet or less.

Supplies/Tools Used:
18" Chainsaw
Pick Mattock
Hatchet
Small sledge for driving nails
About 2lbs of 6" ring shank pole barn nails
Four 3' steel spikes to hold sleepers/abutments in place
Level
Four trees, each about 7" diameter at their base and 30'-40' tall
