We were happy;

Levi and I.

We never fought, there were never any moments where I doubted our relationship.

We were in love.

Both of us kept busy during the day, Levi with his work and me with school.

But before the sun set on most days we’d make sure we were together. Either sharing a tea and watching a movie, or on the couch just holding each other, sharing warmth and quiet words.

We had a peaceful life together, and we enjoyed every second of it.

I knew my family didn’t approve of Levi, and at the time I didn’t understand why.

It was like they knew something about him that I just couldn’t see.

Love is blinding.

It really is.

I never doubted that the dark circles under Levi’s eyes were just from the stress of work.

I never doubted him when he told me he had shifts on the weekends. He was a hard working, busy man. I had no right to doubt his work schedule, no matter how inconvenient it was. Levi always made time for me, so I was happy. Even though he was busy most of the time I appreciated that he was always just a call away whenever I needed him.

He was never honest, though.

Levi was a secret alcoholic. He never worked late, he only visited the local bar and flirted with anyone who his intoxicated mind found appealing.

He lied about so many things, and so I broke up with him.

I can do so much better than Levi.

And he knows that.
