Day 9 of Kubernetes in Devops| What is Networking in DevOps & Kubernetes | Complete Beginner Guide
Networking is the backbone of modern applications.
Whenever you open a website, send a request, or access an API, communication happens between multiple systems. This communication is called networking.
In simple terms, networking is how different applications, services, and servers connect and exchange data.
🔹 Key Networking Concepts
1. IP Address
Every system connected to a network has a unique identity called an IP address.
It helps one system find another system.
👉 Example: Like a house address.
2. Port
A single system can run multiple applications.
Ports help identify which application should receive the request.
👉 Example:
80 → HTTP
443 → HTTPS
3. DNS (Domain Name System)
Humans use domain names like google.com, but systems use IP addresses.
DNS converts domain names into IP addresses.
👉 Example:
google.com → 142.x.x.x
4. Request & Response Flow
When you open a website:
Your browser sends a request
Server processes it
Response comes back
This entire process happens through networking.
🔹 Networking in Kubernetes
Kubernetes heavily depends on networking.
Pods communicate using IP addresses
Services provide stable access to pods
DNS helps services discover each other
👉 Example:
Frontend service → Backend service → Database
All communication happens through networking.
🔹 Why Networking is Important in DevOps
If you don’t understand networking:
Debugging issues becomes difficult
Service communication problems are hard to fix
Kubernetes concepts feel complex
With networking knowledge:
You can troubleshoot faster
You understand system architecture better
You become a strong DevOps engineer
👉 Networking is not optional in DevOps. It is a core foundation.
