PAKISTAN- 10 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE TRAVELLING TO PAKISTAN!
After backpacking Pakistan, here are 10 Pakistan travel tips and things I wish I knew before visiting to Pakistan to help me plan my trip, reassure me and have the best time in this amazing country!
- Pakistan is Safe! Some areas of Pakistan are not possible to visit as a tourist but many are and these are the places you will want to go as a tourist in Pakistan!
- The People of Pakistan! The people in Pakistan are truly amazing and so hospitable, I really urge you to speak to locals. However there is a difference between hospitality and getting free things in Pakistan
- Female Safety in Pakistan. I didn't travel Pakistan as a solo female but I came away from Pakistan knowing that I will visit again on my own. I have made a separate video on female travel in Pakistan here: https://youtu.be/B2IdnOgynnI
- Visa for Pakistan. There are 50 countries who can get a visa on arrival in Pakistan. The rest need to apply for an e-visa for Pakistan and need a letter of invitation or proof of hotel bookings for the whole stay. The visa process for Pakistan is changing a lot so stay updated by looking on the official website: https://visa.nadra.gov.pk
- Weather in Pakistan. Pakistan is an all year round destination but you cannot visit all of Pakistan all year round. It's best to visit Northern Pakistan in the Summer however places in Southern Pakistan in the summer will be hot and wet. In the winter the South is best to visit but the North will be covered in snow.
- Getting Around Pakistan. There is lots of transport in Pakistan and I found it pretty easy to use. There are regular buses between Lahore and Islamabad and you can fly from Islamabad to Skardu and Hunza, although these flights can often be delayed. Trains are another way of getting between the cities like Karachi and Lahore and in cities and towns we caught taxi's really easily and used Uber in Lahore and Islamabad which was reliable.
- How Much Time to See Pakistan. Most visa's for Pakistan and for 1 month and if you can, I recommend spending one month in Pakistan! However 2 or 3 weeks in Pakistan is also a good amount of time.
- Internet in Pakistan. It's fairly easy to get Zong and Jazz sim cards which work in places like Lahore and Islamabad but in the Northern areas of Pakistan you need Scom or Telstra and even then data is limited. I found the wifi to not be great up North and many hotels were not advertised online so the best way is to disconnect and book things when you arrive.
- Cash & ATM's in Pakistan. I recommend foreigners to Pakistan to bring bring a few bank cards because I found that not all foreign bank cards work in all banks and for example, Islamabad airport doesn’t have an ATM that works for international cards right now so try to bring cash for taxi if landing there. Many places will not take card and so cash is needed.
- Pakistan is changing a lot! So you should go there soon whilst it's still relatively unvisited but easy to visit too!
