RETHINKING NYC: Reimagining Policing in NYC
This event was recorded live on Zoom on March 3, 2021.
In light of recent events and calls for defunding the police, what would substantive reform to the NYPD actually look like? What are real-world strategies for increasing police accountability, improving police-community relations, and reducing racial bias? At a crucial time before citywide elections, we bring together leaders and thinkers with diverse expertise to discuss policy solutions. Featuring: Barry Friedman, faculty director of the Policing Project, NYU School of Law; Elizabeth Glazer, former director of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice; Julio Medina, founder, executive director, and CEO of Exodus Transitional Community; and Benjamin B. Tucker, first deputy commissioner of the NYPD. Michael Jacobson, professor of sociology at The Graduate Center and director of the CUNY Institute for State and Local Governance, moderates.
Part of the series RETHINKING NYC, co-sponsored by the Center for Urban Research and the CUNY Institute for State and Local Governance.
