Don't Use Bleach To Clean And Remove Mold!!
When a customer us here at Sage Restoration located in Overland Park, KS, about potential mold contamination in their home they normally say they have tried to clean it using bleach but it always comes back.
Bleach is the last thing you want to use to clean and remove mold because it does not remove the root system so it will grow back when triggered by moisture or high humidity.
Mold can grow in 24-72 hours, especially in the hot and humid months in the Kansas City area. It's important to keep humidity levels below 50% in your home and especially in your basement.
The EPA recommends that homeowners can adequately clean mold in areas less than 10sf. Products that you can use at home are a borax and water solution, vinegar, dish soap and water or hydrogen peroxide from the drug store. Wipe down the area with mold and let dry.
If mold is growing into porous or semi-porous materials it may need to be removed as in the case of drywall or if fabrics are severely damaged they may need to be disposed of.
In the event the affected area is larger than 10sf then you should call a professional such as Sage Restoration located in Overland Park, KS to properly clean and remove the mold.
