Australia must be ‘cautious’ about cyber-enabled espionage

Deputy Opposition Leader Sussan Ley says Australia needs to be “cautious” about cyber-enabled espionage and foreign interference.

Ms Ley’s remarks come as the United States government threatens to ban TikTok.

“TikTok is a Chinese company – it’s vulnerable therefore to influencers from the Chinese Communist Party,” she told Sky News Australia.

“It’s inappropriate for TikTok to have the reach and the access that it does.

“We would support measures looking closely at what the US has done.”
