The Invasion of Poland (1939) — the event that ignited World War II.
On September 1st, Nazi Germany launched a massive attack just one week after signing the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact with the Soviet Union. Two weeks later, the Soviets invaded from the east, crushing Poland from both sides.
By October 6th, Poland was divided between Hitler and Stalin, marking the brutal start of the deadliest war in history.
