We’re just a day away from Friday, but you know what Thursday means...another weekly jobs report.

With 963,000 initial unemployment claims filed, this marks the first time since March where less than 1 million people filed their first unemployment claim.

Economists from the DOW Jones are ecstatic about the report, as they estimated that 1.1 million people would file initial unemployment claims.

But all is not rosy concerning unemployment, as millions of Americans are still collecting benefits at a rate higher than the Great Recession in 2008.

It’s estimated that 28.26 million people are still collecting unemployment benefits across the country, which goes to show just how big of a problem this still remains for millions of struggling Americans.

Meanwhile, Amazon, which raked in $88.91 billion last quarter, recently laid off over 1,200 delivery drivers.

This job cut comes during a time where deliveries are needed more than ever, and Amazon’s stock continues to climb.

Amazon recently cut ties with multiple firms that were active participants in their delivery service partner, or DSP, program.

This decision to sever ties will drop more than 1,200 delivery drivers from working with Amazon to deliver their products.
An Amazon spokesperson stated: “We have ended relationships with some partners and Amazon is working closely with all impacted drivers to ensure they find opportunities to deliver Amazon packages with other local Delivery Service Partners with little to no disruption to pay.”

Really Bezos? You’re going to lay off some of your delivery partners while you continue to make more money than you could ever spend?

I hope Amazon reconsiders this decision, as so many of you out there know just how tough it is dealing with losing a job, finding employment and fighting to collect unemployment benefits.

Finally, I talked about how President Trump’s $400 Lost Wages Assistance unemployment benefit is likely going to be a $300 benefit in yesterday’s unemployment video.

Now, we have confirmation of the $300 number, coming from the Department of Labor letter clarifying the executive action.

Here’s the important part: “States may count funds that are already used to provide regular state UI payments toward the state match, if they choose to do so, eligible claimants will receive a LWA payment of $300 from the Federal Government in addition to their weekly benefit amount.”

And for everyone else, you know the drill: Thanks to everybody from Maryland, Missouri, West Virginia, California, Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana, Michigan, Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, North Carolina, Iowa, Alaska, Oregon, Texas, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Tennessee, Washington and New Mexico.

I know all of this confusion surrounding the new enhanced unemployment benefits is frustrating, but hopefully these funds will begin disbursement next week, in the form of a backdated check for nearly $1,000.

If you still haven’t applied for unemployment benefits, you could still receive a backdated check for thousands of dollars, as well as the new $300 benefits moving forward.
