I'm Hurt Because Of What He's Doing

Our live caller explains: “My husband says he’s ‘not happy’ and that I’ve been controlling… he says he wants space and freedom, but hasn’t left. He’s said a lot of hurtful things, but hasn’t done anything.”

She goes on to explain that she’s been uncomfortable recently, as her husband started befriending a female coworker and spending time at group events with the coworker.

Then, this caller explains what may be the bigger issue, which is her husband’s loss of multiple, different jobs.

With the hurt that comes to one’s ego from multiple losses, anything that comes along to make one feel better about him/herself, is something we gravitate toward- in this case, the possibility is the attention of another coworker.

Additionally, as the caller contemplates moving out, Dr. Joe Beam suggests that she stay in the house for two reasons.

First, it’s much more difficult to deal with this situation when separated. Second, the degree of relief that comes with separating & not dealing with the issues gives a degree of peace...that may make you not want to try to put it back together.

Even though this is painful, this marriage can be fixed and made good again.
