La Palma volcano: Unstoppable lava flows continue as residents say they feel "defeated"

It has been 31 days since the Cumbre Vieja volcano began erupting on La Palma island in Spain, and its seemingly unstoppable lava flows have since destroyed nearly 2,000 buildings, according to the European Union’s Copernicus satellite program.

The volcano has consumed almost everything in its path from homes to industrial parks and covered about 810 hectares of land though evacuations have helped prevent any deaths from occurring. But some residents say they feel "defeated," and with the lava erupting in one place and then a vent opening in another location, there has been fear for some.

"It was anguish, living in fear and praying to see if it would stop and end," evacuee Culberta Cruz said Sunday from the motorhome her and her husband have been living in.

Aerial video shows at least four active vents on the volcano, with lava and ash continuing to spew forth.
