154 Starts a Fire at Ray, 995 with 15 SD70M-2’s, 238 and 42G

I went out this afternoon to catch the 995 with 15 SD70M-2’s going off to be scrapped or sold or whatever and caught 154 at Ray. While waiting on 211 I saw that smoke was coming up around 2 cars on 154 a short ways down the track. 211 went right through the smoke as it passed. I was concerned that this might be serious so I walked down to take a look. Yeah go ahead and criticize me for trespassing if it makes you feel good about yourself. I could have just ignored it and walked away. When I got closer I saw that it was just the pine needles that collected on the tracks that were burning, not the ties or the cars. I assume sparks or a hot box started it. It didn’t look like there was much chance of it spreading across the gravel, and the crew of 211 had already seen it, so I didn’t call it in. So you still think I should have called it in? Gotten my brownie points for helping out? And what? Waited around for the firemen to come, waited for the police so I could fill out police reports and sworn affidavits saying I wasn’t the one who started the fire? Waited for the investigation to be complete so I could go home and not spend the night in jail? Yeah right. I have been chewed out on more than one occasion by the police for trying to help out. Not doing that anymore. Not unless you’re paying me. After that I caught the 955 back in Buford and waited for 154 to finally get moving. I met a lot of good people out to see these trains today. I haven’t been out much the past few weeks. Busy with work and remodeling.
