$1000 Datsun 280z Engine Rebuild (Ep.3)

Back for more Japanese car punishment, we set out to fix up a "new" L28 engine and modify it here and there to get rid of what won't be needed. Like A/C, power steering, and emissions equipment (it will be a Historic titled car).

We decided the best route was to not bother trying to repair the engine that came in the car and just start "fresh". This new engine came with its own unique challenges, but hopefully everything will work out in the end. This engine came with the fuel injection parts, wiring harness, and computer so Sean wants to take the car back to EFI (instead of using the carb setup the previous owner installed).

The idea here is to keep things manageable and cheap, so sticking with the engine design that came in the car seems like the only option. For now, at least. Three months in, this quick project has turned into more of an undertaking than we had hoped, but it means you get to see more screw-ups and breaking parts, so it's not a total loss.

Sean is currently out of country for a few weeks, which is why the voiceover is a one-man-show. I don't think it detracts from this episode, as more banter like in episode 2 would have dragged this out a bit too long anyway. Episode 4 is the engine swap itself, and may be out sooner than you think. What lies in the future for the car however, can only be speculated upon.

FLASHING LIGHTS WARNING: Lots of strobing in the scenes featuring a welder. Gave me a headache when editing, don't underestimate the power of flashing lights. Kept it short enough I didn't feel it warranted an in-video warning, though.
