Visiting Conowingo Dam | Cormorants | Bald Eagles | Herons

Visiting Conowingo Dam on an October day to view the cormorants fishing (mostly for catfish), a few bald eagles hanging around, and a great blue heron or two, on the Susquehanna River in Maryland.

The cormorants can be seen eating catfish. Two invasive species of catfish, flathead catfish and blue catfish, are found in this area so hopefully these are being eaten by the cormorants before they grow to a huge size.

Both catfish species grow to more than 100 pounds in size and are highly predatory in nature.

Exelon Generation maintains the Conowingo Hydroelectric Generating Station Fisherman's Park for public use.

The Conowingo power plant produces 1.6 million megawatt hours of electricity annually, enough to power more than 159,000 homes for a year.
