AWS Athena #awsservices #awslearning #awscertification #techshorts #cloudcomputing #edushorts
Amazon Athena is a serverless, interactive query service that lets you analyze data directly in Amazon S3 using standard SQL.
Think of it as a "SQL window" into your data lake: you don't have to load the data into a database or manage any servers. You simply point Athena at your files, define a schema, and start querying.
Core Features
Serverless: There is no infrastructure to set up, manage, or scale. AWS handles all the compute power behind the scenes.
Pay-per-Query: You are generally billed based on the amount of data scanned by your queries (typically $5 per TB). If you aren't running queries, you aren't paying for the service.
Standard SQL: It uses a managed version of Trino (formerly Presto), supporting complex joins, window functions, and arrays.
Support for Many Formats: It can read diverse data formats including CSV, JSON, ORC, Avro, and Parquet.
AWS Glue Integration: It uses the AWS Glue Data Catalog to store and retrieve table schemas, making it easy to create a unified metadata repository.
