Crete | Lastros Village. Lastros is a tiny, picture-postcard village clinging to the mountainside of east Crete. Its white houses look like something out of a cubist painting, as Lastros is a carefully-preserved community.
The neat and boxy houses, clustered together in a wooded fold of Mount Askordalia, that contain intimate feeling of coziness and security that traditional Greek villages were all about. Lastros has been around for a long time, as attested by its Neolithic and ancient ruins discovered nearby. There are also relics of the Venetian era several hundred years ago.
To get to Lastros from Heraklion, drive east on the main highway, past Aghios Nikolaos and around the south end of the Bay of Mirabello, winding up into the hills, for about 75 kilometres, and Lastros will swing into view on your left. You can also take a KTEL rural bus from Agios Nikolaos or Sitia for approximately half an hour trip.
