How Consciousness Functions with Bernard Baars

This video is a special release from the original Thinking Allowed series that ran on public television from 1986 until 2002. It was recorded in about 1988.

Bernard J. Baars, author of The Cognitive Revolution in Psychology, discusses the unusual history of twentieth century psychology in which consciousness was dismissed as a serious scientific topic for over fifty years.  He suggests that the contours of consciousness can be understood by contrasting conscious and unconscious events.
