Major rationalisation of the UK aircraft industry occurred during the 1960s. With the acquisition of Bristol Helicopters, Fairey Aviation and Saunders-Roe, Westland Helicopters transformed itself into Briton’s only helicopter maker with plants at Yeovil, Weston-super-Mare, Eastleigh and Hayes. Producing helicopters for all roles.
