Leaked document reveals EU entitled to cut Israel trade deal since 2017

A leaked legal document obtained by the EU Observer shows that the European Union was legally entitled to suspend a trade deal and cooperation with Israel since 2017 due to its violations of international law in the occupied West Bank.

The memo says freezing the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which grants Israel preferential access to EU markets among other things, would be in compliance with international law.

Despite groing pressure on the bloc to take more stringent measures against illegal settler activities in occupied Palestine, Italy and Germany on Tuesday blocked a bid to suspend the trade deal in light of Israeli actions against Palestinians.
