Tenth Place: Peek a Boo Boxing Style
If you've ever watched Mike Tyson or his trainer Cus D'Amato, then you must be very familiar with the Peek a Boo Boxing Style. Peek a Boo gets its very funny name from the defensive hands position it employs, in which hands are placed in front of the boxer's face like in the Peek a boo baby game. What makes peek a boo so effective is how it offers extra protection while also making it really easy for the boxer to jab the opponent's face. Peek a boo is based on the bad intentions philosophy developed by D'Amato, establishing that those who practice Peek a boo are counterpunchers that provoke the opponent into launching punches into it, allowing them to successfully counter their mistakes with a well placed jab and swift footwork.

Ninth Place: Jujutsu
Known as one of the most effective martial arts in the world because it uses your attacker's aggressiveness. That's because when a Jujutsu fighter is attacked, they will redirect their attacker's energy and momentum wherever they prefer, causing the opponent’s attack to be useless. Most of its moves include throws and joint locks, in order to apply breaking pressure to a joint such as an elbow or a knee.

Eighth Place: Taekwondo
Taekwondo is one of the most diverse fighting styles ever developed. Taekwondo employs powerful, high kicks so powerful on their own that a whole fighting style was developed around it. Taekwondo places great emphasis on speed and agility, using the kinetic energy of a strike to increase its speed.

Seventh Place: Sambo
Sambo teaches you strong takedowns, punches and submissions to quickly and efficiently bring a heavy opponent to the ground. Sambo is one of the youngest fighting styles in the world and the youngest in this list, translating literally into self-defense without weapons.

Sixth Place: Karate
Karate is a striking art that mostly employs knee strikes, elbow strikes, punching and kicking. Karate is an effective fighting style for self protection, and also considered to be one of the safest and easiest to learn fighting styles ever created.

Fifth Place: Krav Maga
Krav maga's objective isn't destroying the opponent with spinning kicks or overwhelming them with precision strikes, but actually quickly neutralizing threats using simple and often dirty moves. A Krav Maga user will target the body's main vulnerabilities: eyes, neck, groin, fingers, throat and face.

Fourth Place: Muay Thai
Muay Thai comes in the fourth spot of our list, being commonly labeled as the Art of Eight Limbs. If you've never seen a muay thai fighter before, then we advise you to do it and witness the absolute madness it is to fight a Muay Thai fighter, an expert at employing elbows, knees, fists and legs in order to strike the opponent down. Even it's defense is based in offense, as a Muay Thai attacker uses trips and throws to knock an attacker to the ground.

Third Place: Aikido
Aikido is probably one of the most unique fighting styles ever created, as the Aikido fighter considers the safety and well-being of their attacker as much as they do their own. They search for a peaceful resolution with their opponent instead of looking to strike them down. Aikido is the art of peace which looks to control aggression without inflicting injury.

Second Place: Wing Chun
Wing Chun comes in the second spot of our list, one of the most intriguing fighting styles as its backstory is a mixture of myth and reality. Wing Chun fighters are the literal embodiment of balance, the jacks of all trades in the world of fighting. They work to attack and defend simultaneously, making them extremely deadly at a close range.

First Place: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Remember Jujutsu from the ninth spot of our list? We have its meaner, stronger and more efficient cousin: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, founded by the Gracie brothers Carlos and Helio. Known as BJJ for short, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the most effective martial arts style in the world. BJJ uses proper weight distribution as one of its main concepts, in order to take down larger or stronger opponents. BJJ uses ground control, passes, submissions and chokes to incapacitate their helpless opponent, cutting of their air and oxygen supply.
