Chenthilandavar Temple, Tiruchendur is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Murugan. It is second among six abodes of Murugan (Arupadaiveedugal) situated in Tamil Nadu, India. This temple is the fourth Hindu temple in Tamil Nadu to get ISO certification. It is located in the eastern end of the town Tiruchendur in the district of Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari. The temple complex is on the shores of Bay of Bengal. Temple is open from 5 AM to 9 PM

Thiruchendur Murugan Temple is one of the most revered and ancient Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Murugan (also known as Subramanya or Kartikeya), the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is located in the town of Thiruchendur, in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, India, on the shores of the Bay of Bengal.

Key Features and Significance:
One of the Arupadai Veedu: Thiruchendur is the second of the six sacred abodes (Arupadai Veedu) of Lord Murugan. These six temples are considered highly important in Murugan worship.

Unique Seaside Location: Unlike most Murugan temples, which are located on hills, Thiruchendur Temple is uniquely situated on the seashore. This coastal setting gives the temple a serene and divine ambiance.

Historical and Mythological Importance: According to legend, Lord Murugan fought and defeated the demon Surapadman at this very site. After the victory, he worshipped Lord Shiva here. The event is commemorated through the grand celebration of Soorasamharam, a major festival held annually.

Architectural Beauty: The temple features Dravidian architecture with majestic gopurams (gateway towers), intricately carved pillars, and long corridors. The sanctum sanctorum houses the main deity, Subramanya, along with his consorts Valli and Deivanai.

Sacred Well and Holy Tank: The Nazhikkinaru, a freshwater spring located near the sea, is believed to be holy. Devotees take a dip in the sea and then in this well as part of the ritual purification process.

Pilgrimage and Devotion: Thousands of devotees visit the temple every day. It is especially crowded during festivals like Skanda Sashti, Vaikasi Visakam, and Panguni Uthiram.

திருச்செந்தூர் முருகன் கோவில் என்பது தமிழ்நாட்டின் தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள திருச்செந்தூரில் அமைந்துள்ள புகழ்பெற்ற முருகன் கோவிலாகும். இது கடலோரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள மிக முக்கியமான இந்து கோவில்களில் ஒன்றாகும்.

முக்கிய அம்சங்கள் மற்றும் மகிமைகள்:
ஆறுபடை வீடுகளில் ஒன்று: திருச்செந்தூர், அருள்மிகு முருகப் பெருமானின் ஆறுபடை வீடுகளில் இரண்டாவது தலம். இது பக்தர்களால் மிகவும் முக்கியமாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது.

கடலோரத்தில் அமைந்த ஒரே முருகன் கோவில்: பெரும்பாலான முருகன் கோவில்கள் மலையில் அமைந்துள்ளன. ஆனால் திருச்செந்தூர் கோவில் கடற்கரையில் அமைந்துள்ளது என்பது இதன் தனிச்சிறப்பு.

இதிகாச, புராண வரலாறு: இத்தலத்தில் முருகன் அருளால் அரக்கன் சூரபத்மனை அழித்து உலகத்திற்கு அமைதி கொண்டுவந்தார் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. இதையொட்டி ஆண்டுதோறும் சூரசம்ஹாரம் என்ற பெருவிழா கோலாகலமாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

பண்பாட்டு மற்றும் கட்டிடக்கலை: திராவிடக் கட்டிடக்கலை சிறப்புடன் அமைந்துள்ள இந்த கோவிலில் பெரிய கோபுரங்கள், அழகான தூண்கள், நீளமான மண்டபங்கள் உள்ளன. மூலவராக முருகன் சந்நிதியில் வள்ளி, தேவியானையுடன் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார்.

நழிக்கினாறு: கடலருகே அமைந்துள்ள இந்த புனித கிணறு, சமுத்திரத்தின் அருகிலும் இயற்கையான இனிய நீர் கொண்டுள்ளது. இதைத் தொட்டு குளிக்க பக்தர்கள் திரளாக வருவார்கள்.

பக்தி மற்றும் தீர்த்த யாத்திரை: நாள்தோறும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் தரிசனத்துக்குச் செல்கின்றனர். கந்த சஷ்டி, வைகாசி விசாகம், பங்குனி உத்திரம் போன்ற பண்டிகை காலங்களில் கோவில் பரப்பளவில் பரபரப்பாக இருக்கும்.
