The Sahara at sunset is pure magic, the sand glowing like embers as the sky turns to velvet. I was tracking a Fennec fox, admiring its satellite-dish ears, when it stopped and cautiously approached a small, ghost-pale scorpion. But this was no ordinary arachnid. Its tail ended not in a stinger, but in a single, perfect green bud. This was the legendary Scorpioflora oasidis, a creature whispered about in Tuareg caravans as the "Fox's Kiss." I thought the fox was about to make a meal of it, but what happened next completely blew my mind. The fox didn't attack. It gently, delicately, nudged the green bud with its nose.
