So what is exactly is PERA?
SO WHO IS PERA FOR?
What is Pera?

Personal Equity Retirement Account —it is equivalent to the 401k in the US

PERA was brought into law in 2008 but has not really been talked about as much because as you all know as a culture Filipinos like spending massively more than saving.

Filipinos are not saving. Filipinos are preparing for retirement.
Who can avail PERA:

Income earners (employed or self employed)
TIN account
Filipino Citizens
Atleast 18 years old
What I like about it?

Tax benefit

No 20% withholding tax
No 10% capital gains tax
No 10% dividends tax
No regular income tax on PERA Products

5% income tax credit to pay for income tax liabilities

No Estate Taxes

What I don’t like about it?

It has a limit, you can only put 100,000 Pesos a year as a maximum if you are a Filipino in the Philippines and 200,000 Pesos maximum if you are an OFW.

The limit is the tax free limit anything you add on top of that you would be taxed already.

So what is exactly is PERA?

So basically PERA is a program that you sign up for to reward you when you save and invest for your retirement as it gives you tax benefits as you start doing it. It is not a new investment or asset class but it is a system that will help Filipinos who are not really savers to to start saving.

SO WHO IS PERA FOR?

This are for people who are not disciplined enough to save
This are for people who want to get additional earnings from the tax benefit
This are for people who have a very long time frame
