There are several methods you can use to remove poison ivy. Obviously the best method is herbicide. However most herbicides you buy will only last a month or two which isn't long enough to keep Poison Ivy from growing. For that reason we recommend an Herbicide called Grazon Next HL you can buy it here: http://amzn.to/2q1MXmw

The Grazon Next HL Herbicide is extremely effective on woody weeds like poison ivy, and it lasts a long time.

When possible we like to use natural methods to removing poison ivy, like burning. Burning Poison Ivy is better for the environment as it leaves the organic matter behind to enrich the soil. The problem with burning is that it will require several burns to damage the plant enough to die. Burning poison ivy can also cause very serious health issues if you inhale or come in contact with the smoke.

Using animals, like goats, is another effective way to remove poison ivy. Goats will eat the plants until they are completely gone over time.

Herbicide is the only quick and easy way to remove poison ivy.

Poison Ivy can be identified by it compounding 3 leaf structure. We tell our kids "leaflets of three, let it be" because there are many similar looking plants to poison ivy that they may get confused with. Poison Ivy generally has three leafs. Two are directly across from each other, the third center leaf has a longer steam. The leaflets of poison ivy come to a point on the tip. Poison Ivy can grow as a bush, but is more commonly seen as a vine. Two ways the poison ivy vine can grow are spreading and climbing. On spreading vines the vines are under or close to the ground with numerous stalks or shoots coming up. These can very easily be confused with saplings from trees and difficult to identify when dormant due to their similarity to other plants. Climbing Poison Ivy Vines look considerably different. They are hairy and as they climb they shoot out long stalks or shoots. The shoots when climbing up a tree can become very large and look similar to small tree branches or limbs. Poison Ivy vines can become extremely large. The leaves also vary greatly in size. Most poison Ivy Vines leaflets are about 1 to 3 inches in length, however we've seen them as many as 4 to 6 inches. Newer leaves or forming leaves of the poison ivy plant look reddish in color. Generally in the early spring the poison ivy plant looks red as it begins producing leaves.

The flower of the poison ivy plant is small and white. These flowers generally grow in bunches and bloom throughout the year. The flowers turn to fruit. The poison ivy fruit looks very similar to small green grapes or berries.
